The young band Calan opened, demonstrating their youthful virtuosity through traditional reels and dance. 9Bach brought their melodic and modern interpretation of Welsh folk to the stage before Mabon, already established on the international festival circuit, brought the theatre to its feet.

The showcase formed part of a part of a 50 delegate-strong trade mission to WOMEX arranged by Music Wales - a new partnership between Wales Arts International (WAI) and Welsh Music Foundation (WMF) supported by Arts Council of Wales. Music Wales was also in Copenhagen to support its bid to bring Womex to Cardiff in 2013.

Catrin Finch, who as well as performing is an ambassador for Music Wales, commented:

"With the new Music Wales brand, a stand at Womex, increased Welsh delegation and a phenomenal final night showcase – there is no doubt that this is the year Wales arrived! The next task it to bring Womex – and the international stage – back to Wales in 2013"

Dafydd Roberts of Calan’s label Sain, WMF board member and part of the Music Wales delegation added;

"We have had an unprecedented response from WOMEX that has seen perceptions of Wales and our music completely changed. After hearing the showcase, delegates from around the world are interested in what Wales has to offer and this is something we can build on for a long time."

Upon returning from Denmark, negotiations will continue with WOMEX and Music Wales in the hope that Cardiff will be one of the shortlisted 2013 host cities, announced at the end of the month.

Nick Capaldi, Chief Executive, Arts Council of Wales said:

"Bringing WOMEX to Cardiff would mean that the music industry’s eyes would be on Wales, not for one night, but for the entire event and beyond. This really is an opportunity not only to bring an important event to Wales, but to transform the music sector in Wales in the lead up to 2013."
