Bagad Pibau Morgannwg exists to promote and develop the Welsh bagpipe and pibgorn traditions through teaching and public performances. The band (bagad) was established in January 2007 and performs in parades and events, most recently in the National St. David's Day parade and Lorient Interceltic Festival in 2008 and 2009. Since January 2011 the bagad has been running monthly piping workshops at Theatr Soar in Merthyr Tydfil.
Members of the bagad have been employed by Clera, the Society for the traditional instrument of Wales, to teach bagpipe and pibgorn at its workshop days around Wales.
The main aim of the bagad is to increase awareness of the Welsh bagpipe and pibgorn traditions and respond to the growing interest in the artform by providing opportunities for people to access teaching at all levels, from beginners through to more experienced players.
The bagad as a performance group is open to all those who feel confident to take part and have a reasonable level of ability in playing bagpipes or drums.
