Suitable for all the family, and especially suitable for children aged 7-12, these popular concerts will be conducted by the charismatic Grant Llewellyn. The Orchestra will perform light music by Bernstein, Tchaikovsky and Eric Coates, as well as popular TV theme tunes such as the theme to The Simpsons.
Sophie Evans, who in February of this year took over the full time role of Dorothy in Andrew Lloyd Webber’s production of The Wizard of Oz at the world famous London Palladium, originally hails from Tonypandy in the Rhondda Valley, and shot to fame as the runner-up of the BBC One series Over the Rainbow in 2010.
She returns to Wales to join the Orchestra for these family concerts, and will perform songs from The Sound of Music, The Wizard of Oz, Hairspray and The Little Mermaid as well as a few surprises.
Sophie says, "I am so excited to be returning home to perform with the BBC National Orchestra of Wales. I have been looking forward to these concerts for a very long time and they have been made all the more special now that I am at the London Palladium on a full time basis. I can’t wait!"
There will also be opportunities to meet the musicians from the Orchestra and to try your hand at playing a musical instrument, during the interval and before the concert from 6.15pm.
These concerts form part of just one project led by the Orchestra’s Education and Community Outreach department, dedicated to introducing new audiences to classical music, and enhancing the music education of young people in Wales.
Single tickets for these concerts are priced at just £9.50. For all of our concerts, we also offer special family tickets where up to 2 adults and up to 4 children can attend for just £16.50.
